Chiropractic Principles: Introduction to the Practice of Business and Current Practice Styles

Throughout my life I have had many business experiences as both a consumer and an active business member. Perhaps the most influential of these experiences happening within the last two years. Prior to moving to Toronto, a few close friends of mine decided to create a business plan for a new clothing company. They wanted the clothing company to be fashionable and representative of the east coast of Canada. With these ideas in mind, Citadel Clothing Company was created. Citadel hill is the fortified heart in the city of Halifax. It is a defensive core symbolizing strength and dignity that instils a sense of security and comfort to everyone in its presence. Citadel Clothing Company was built on these values. Living in a culture that is constantly reinforcing a sense of fear, inadequacy and guilt, Citadel aims to uplift individuals by celebrating uniqueness and presenting clothing that nurtures confidence. Citadel Clothing Company is committed to create high quality clothes with an emphasis on supporting local manufactures. Although I am no longer much involved with the clothing company, many of the ideas and business hurdles that the company endured I was a part of. This experience alone was a very influential learning experience for me personally and as an entrepreneur. It has taught me how to critically assess many situations or problems that present to me from a business standpoint.

I really enjoyed this experience as it gave me an idea of what my future had in store and gave me ideas on what I would like to do and things I would do differently from a business view. The business side of chiropractic was one of the drawing factors for me towards the profession. I really wanted to pursue a career in health care and liked how chiropractic gives one the opportunity to own a practice. One of the aspects of owning a clinic that excites me is the opportunity to market yourself and your clinic the way you personally want. I also plan on being an active member in my community by volunteering with local charities and helping local sports teams. By giving back to the community, I will in turn hope to make a name for myself in my clinic area. I currently have a few ideas for my future practice, but these ideas will change and more accumulate as I progress through my education and gain more insights on what my future is going

Upon completing the entrepreneurial potential self-assessment, I discovered that I am at or slightly below average on most aspects. In general, it has me scored below average on my general profile. This was a bit surprising, as I feel fairly proficient in many aspects related to entrepreneurship. I found it interesting to see that I am above average on motivation for success. I enjoyed seeing this reflected in my results, as I like to think of myself as having a driven personality. Areas that I would like to work on include increasing my need for challenge. I plan to do this by continuing to be involved in things I am interested in and finding new ways to motivate myself. I believe being conscious of the areas that need improvement from a business and entrepreneur standpoint will allow one to achieve a more positive and successful future. Overall, I enjoyed doing this self-assessment task. It has allowed me to view the areas that will make me a better entrepreneur and highlights the areas that I need to focus on for future success as a potential business owner.
