Today we had our first in class panel presentation and discussion. Researchers from our school did a brief presentation in the first hour, which was followed by answers to some of our questions on the topics covered in module 1. This session was very informative because it touched on the key theories of subluxation which is relevant to our future studies and career as it lays the foundation for what we will be doing as Doctors of Chiropractic and why. Dr. Ross talked about subluxations and used the analogy of a farmhouse window. He also talked about the three clear meanings for subluxation at CMCC that are as follows: 1. The event – an essentially instantaneous biomechanical phenomenon 2. The clinical presentation – what you see in clinic 3. Subluxation lesion: anatomical derangement or pathophysiological processes at any level of organization. By the end of the presentation we decided that it was a term that has evolved. It is a situation where the joint is restricted in motion and needs to be teased so that it can move in a direction it’s meant to so you can restore your motion - it’s a fixation. We are more comfortable with this definition of it - where subluxation is referred to as a fixation - where it won’t go.
